Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about piercings, healing, aftercare and orders at The Piercing Spot.
-
Orders are delivered by a local courier and can take up to 3–4 business days, depending on your location and holidays.
-
Age requirements depend on the piercing. Oral, dermal, surface, and nipple piercings are for clients aged 18 and above. Industrial, nose, tragus, daith, and forward helix piercings are from age 16. Helix piercings are from age 13. Navel piercings are usually from age 14; clients aged 12–13 may be considered only if the area is fully developed and suitable. Lobe piercings are available from 6 months old, using a needle only. Second-lobe piercings are generally from age 10, though younger clients may be considered with parent or guardian approval. A parent or legal guardian must be present and consent for clients under 18. Our piercer will assess whether the placement is suitable.
-
Healing time depends on the piercing and the individual. Lobes usually take 3–6 months; cartilage piercings take 6–12 months; and a daith takes 8–12 months. Please see our piercing services page for estimated healing times for each piercing. A piercing may look healed before it has finished healing internally, so follow your piercer’s advice before changing the jewelry.
-
The piercing price includes one piece of initial jewelry in titanium or surgical steel. The price depends on the jewelry selected. Please tell your piercer if you have a nickel allergy or sensitivity. Solid gold jewelry options are also available at separate prices.
-
Wash your hands before touching it and clean it with sterile saline as instructed. Don’t twist or rotate the jewelry. Keep the piercing dry, avoid sleeping on it, and avoid swimming for the first two weeks. Ask your piercer before submerging a piercing that is still healing.
-
A small bump can be caused by irritation, pressure, friction, sleeping on the piercing, or jewelry movement. Don’t squeeze it or use harsh products. Keep following your aftercare instructions and ask a professional piercer to check it.
-
Yes. A little bruising or discoloration around or behind the ear can happen after a fresh piercing and should gradually improve. If it spreads or worsens, or you have severe pain, increasing swelling, heat, unusual discharge, or a fever, seek medical advice.
-
Pressure during healing—especially sleeping on a fresh ear piercing while the initial longer jewelry is still in place and before it is professionally downsized—can shift the piercing’s angle. If the channel has healed crooked, changing or adjusting the jewelry cannot straighten it. Please have a professional piercer assess it.
-
Try not to sleep directly on it. Pressure and friction can irritate a healing piercing and may affect its angle. Keep pressure off the area while it heals.
-
Don’t change the initial jewelry yourself while the piercing is healing. Some piercings need a professional downsize as swelling settles. Contact our team so a piercer can check whether it’s ready. Free downsizing within 6 months for fresh piercings done with us using titanium or surgical steel. Charges apply after 6 months. 14K gold jewelry is not eligible for free downsizing.
-
Increasing pain, heat, severe redness or swelling, thick or bad-smelling discharge, or a fever can be signs of infection. Seek medical advice if these occur or your symptoms are getting worse.
